We are running a series of events linked to our new exhibition Gordon Baldwin - Objects for a Landscape which include children's drop-ins, adult workshops and curators talks.

Saturday Talks
Every Saturday, 3 March - 9 June, 11am
Join one of the Friends of York Art Gallery for a 20-minute talk about Gordon Baldwin and the exhibition. (Limited seating due to the open display of the exhibition).
Sculptural Ceramics Symposium
Friday, 11 May
Join a group of experts to find out more about the field of sculptural ceramics, in particular the work of Gordon Baldwin. A partnership project with the University of York. More details will appear here once they have been confirmed.

Work with a real artist in our fun, family drop-in workshops on the first Saturday of every month. Everyone welcome.
These sessions are for accompanied children, with a £1 charge per child to cover the cost of materials. Sponsored by the Friends of York Art Gallery.
York in Winter
4 February, 11am - 1pm and 2pm - 4pm
Wrap up warm for this session when artist Lesley Seeger will be back for a session looking at York in winter! Try painting a picture of York in the snow or ice inspired by paintings in our Burton Gallery.
Gordon Baldwin
3 March, 11am - 1pm and 2pm - 4pm
Look to the sky for this session with artist Griselda Goldsbrough who will be using clouds as inspiration for drawings, sculptures or poems inspired by the work of potter Gordon Baldwin, in Objects for a Landscape.
Easter
7 April, 11am - 1pm and 2pm - 4pm
Celebrate the Easter story with us this month and work with artist Lesley Seeger on images of Jesus, inspired by our religious paintings.
York in Spring
5 May, 11am - 1pm and 2pm - 4pm
Put a spring in your step and celebrate the start of Spring with this session inspired by paintings in our Burton Gallery. Walk away with your own painting of York in the Spring.
Clouds Made of Clay
14 - 17 February, 11am - 1pm and 2pm - 4pm

Create your own abstract sculptures and charcoal drawings inspired by cloud formations - and the pottery of artist Gordon Baldwin - in these drop-in workshops for all the family.
Then go cloud-spotting with your own cloud guide.
Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. £1 per child to cover the cost of materials.
Poetry: Shape and Form
31 March, 10.30am - 3pm
Explore the shape and form of poetry, inspired by Gordon Baldwin's abstract sculptures, with poet Andrew McMillan.

Drawing Form
14 April, 10.30am - 3pm
Inspired by Baldwin's exploratory drawings - using natural forms and cloud formations to generate large, bold sculptural drawings with tutor Fiona Fitzgerald.

Creating Form
21 and 28 April, 10am - 3pm
Sculptural form in clay and mixed media, inspired by the work of Gordon Baldwin with tutor Fiona Fitzgerald.

Early Drawing Techniques
12 May, 10am - 2pm
A day or practical drawing activities exploring the materials and techniques used by the European artists from the Renaissance to the 1700s.

Sketch&Stitch: Moth Magic
23 and 24 June, 10am - 4pm
Using inspiration from moths in the Yorkshire Museum's collections, develop design ideas, begin a sketch book and create stitch sample with an experienced embroiderer. Experiment with a variety of design and stitch techniques, building towards a finished piece of textile work.
£40 per person, including all materials - you may wish to bring your own materials and sewing kit. To book a place, telephone 01904 650333.
