3 Collectors features 20th century studio pottery from three prominent collectors, displayed in our newly-refurbished space,The Gallery of Pots.
Eric Milner-White, Dean of York Minster (1884 - 1963) bought the biggest and best pots, Wakefield librarian WA Ismay (1910 - 2001) preferred functional pots, while Henry Rothschild (born 1913), the founder of Primavera gallery, bought pieces that appealed to him emotionally.
This first exhibition in The Gallery of Pots celebrates the remarkable ceramics collection at York Museums Trust that these three men have helped to create.
Containing 12,500 pieces, the collection covers the history of pottery production from prehistoric times to the present day.
An exciting programme of changing exhibitions will highlight different aspects of the collection.
The Gallery of Pots and the new exhibition opened September 12 and has already proven popular with the public.
Please note The exhibition's final day will be Bank Holiday Monday, 3 May, 2010, a week earlier than originally planned.
