York Art Gallery Redevelopment – Progress in Pictures

Progress of the redevelopment at York Art Gallery has been documented by a local photographer.
Photographs tracking the work, which has been closed since early 2013, have been taken by Peter Heaton, showing some behind the scenes glimpses of the work involved with the £8m refurbishment.
Peter has had access to the gallery throughout the project and has captured some of the interesting occurrences during the work so far, which includes a resourceful pigeon acquiring bungee cords from site to build a nest.
The pictures below are Peter’s log to date:
York Art Gallery will reopen in 2015 with 60 per cent more display space by creating a new first-floor gallery in the space above the Main Gallery on the ground floor, developing an entirely new gallery above the existing South Gallery and expanding into the rooms next door to the gallery, formerly occupied by the City Archives.
The gallery will then have three exhibition galleries on the ground floor, capable of hosting major national and international exhibitions, and four on the first floor, two of which will showcase our internationally significant collection of British Studio Ceramics.

Do you plan to stage Open Exhibitions at the new Gallery?
